Kia ora tatou...My name is Bevan Taylor and I whakapapa to the Maori tribes of Ngati Toa/Mahuta/Tama/Mutunga/Ruanui and to ancestral links in Scotland, Ireland and England. I was born in Kawhia into a whanau that have occupied Kawhia since the arrival of the Tainui Waka, approx 700 years previously and I spent my early years as a youngster very much connected with nature and living off this land.
Horses have played a major part of my lifestyle. My father along with managing a camping ground, fishing boat, takeaways, trapping possums, raising calves, building houses and hawking fish, eels, meat and whatever else he could sell, also captured and broke in the wild horses of the region. What I'm trying to portray here, is that my upbringing had a lot to do with a lifetime passion with the Great outdoors.
Since starting “The Kawhia Kids Horse Riding and Adventure Club” in Dec, 2011, we have done well over 200 treks by horses, kayaking and hiking. Our major goal is to establish an outward bounds center where kids from all over New Zealand can come to ground, earth and learn new skills. We invite anyone who has a passion and interest for helping kids, to support us in any way to move us towards realizing this vision.
The following posts will be from some of our young members putting into story form all about the adventures they have been going through. Please enjoy and give them some positive feedback by responding with your own comments...

For the horse with the most stamina and endurance, nothing can beat Jimmy. Rising 18 years, he still has another million miles to trek. He'll be the last man standing.
Gaia is our sweetest and most loveable horse. Going on 17 years of age, Gaia has taught many a youngster how to ride. Currently she has a 6 month old filly foal at her side.
Standing at 12 hands and with a calm and courageous temperament, Diago is another favourite with the learners. He is Mr Personality that is also skilled in pulling carts.
Bonnie is an absolute gem of a mare. Standing at only 14.1 hands high, her go anywhere and stable nature makes her a favourite amongst the kids. And boy can she go.
This photo was taken in Nov 2012, when our very special girl "Angel" (foal of Gaia) was only a week old...Her mum is a purebred Arabian and dad a pinto from Taharoa...

Toby is an ABSOLUTE pet! He is always hanging around wanting a pat and to get the attention he deserves. And if he hears our voices he will come running up from the bottom of the paddock to check out what's going on.
